ARTISTIC BRIDGES

The project PONTES ARTÍSTICAS (ARTISTIC BRIDGES) was born from the partnership between the National Tile Museum in Lisbon, and the Duo Scherzo, made up of Vera Morais (flute) and Margarida Prates (piano).

Held in 2024, this event consisted of a series of commented classical music concerts, preceded by brief visits to selected spaces in the museum.

The cycle's main focus was the discovery of possible points of connection between two artistic expressions that are apparently so disparate, such as ceramics and music. This idea gave rise to the title ARTISTIC BRIDGES.

4 concerts were held with 4 different artists, 4 instruments and 4 themes that interconnected and connected these two arts.

The thematic line of the concerts followed a chronological line, which was linked to visits to the museum, thus strategically uniting lines of artistic thought between tilework and music, arousing enormous interest in the public, which corresponded to a growing number of visitors, from concert to concert.

The success of this initiative was reflected in the letter of recommendation of Duo Scherzo to the Institution Museums and Monuments of Portugal, written by the director of the National Tile Museum:

“The great public success of this initiative owes much to the artistic quality of the concerts, combined with the captivating and educational mediation provided during them. (…) we highlight the mastery of the musicians combined with engaging and remarkable stage performances (…) the competence, professionalism, versatility of Duo Scherzo and the dedication in teamwork with the Museum consolidate the Duo as an added value and reference in cultural mediation projects that combine music, art and education”. (João Pedro Monteiro, director of the National Tile Museum, January 2025)

Following this initiative, Museus e Monumentos de Portugal invited the Duo to replicate the project in other museums in Portugal, and contacts are currently being developed for new partnerships.
